Mario is originally from Smooth Rock Falls, Ontario. While pursuing his law degree, Mario was employed on Parliament Hill and was also involved in the Faculty of Law's mentor program for first-year students.

Mario is fluently bilingual and is a member of l'Association des juristes d'expression française de l'Ontario. Mario was called to the Ontario Bar in February 2002 and, after having articled with the firm in 2000-2001, began practicing in the areas of civil litigation, commercial law, corporate law and real estate law. He has appeared on numerous occasions before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Court of Appeal for Ontario and various administrative tribunals.
